I am familiar with the syrek, have been since I was a child. It was a must for the Easter besakt blessing. My Slovak family, the Balent's added a bit of vanilla and sugar. It then tasted like a sweet custard.My uncle John Balent even added some raisins. It is certainly true that Slovak families experimented with their customs and then it became the norm for that family! Very good!
